Programme Statement
The PORSE Programme is family directed, using in-home and community learning settings, guided by the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whaariki.
Purpose
In understanding societal needs for two working incomes and women returning to the workforce PORSE has purposefully chosen to not follow mainstream group-based institutionalised models of childcare, so that young children do not need to spend long hours away from home.
In understanding the importance for our youngest children needing to develop meaningful relationships with only a small number of significant adults in their formative years, PORSE services were created to share the parenting role for when the parent is not at home or requires additional support.
In understanding the family and the home as both being crucial for unfolding a child’s full potential during the critical stages of early brain development, PORSE has returned the responsibilities of nurturing young children back into the context of family and home.
In understanding the importance of a rich childhood PORSE offers childcare and early childhood education that stays in touch with the magic and spontaneity of childhood in a home setting.
In understanding the positive returns to society when investing in a child’s early years, PORSE has established career pathways for educators to develop the right attitude, skills and knowledge to nurture young children within home, family and community settings.
In understanding the government’s ten year strategic plan for early childhood education, PORSE is using government subsidies as an investment in health, welfare, education and parenting programmes. At the same time increasing participation, and making In-Home Childcare affordable and accessible to all NZ families.
In understanding the powerful attributes of the PORSE model of In-Home Childcare, all educators can be reached, immersed and supported to function successfully in raising the next generation of responsible, resilient, confident, competent and contributing members to society.
PORSE has established training and education programmes to encourage educators to become more knowledgeable, thoughtful and sensitively attuned to a child’s emotional wellbeing and developing mind in the early years.
Guided by the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whaariki, the PORSE Programme focuses on early brain development, nurturing and respectful interactions between children, family and educators.
